FILE-BASED PROCESSING OF AUDIO FOR PRODUCTION AND TRANSMISSION
Markus Hinz, Telos Alliance/Linear Acoustic
Broadcasting today is all about automation. This presentation is about how Radio, TV and production facilities can make use of file-based processing as art of their overall architecture. What are the design criteria for adding individual, high-quality audio processing options to existing environments and processes, and how do these appear in real-world deployments? After a quick look at why file-based audio processing can produce better quality results than real-time processing, and why broadcasters should nevertheless have both as part of their workflows, we will review a number of case studies from TV, Radio, Media Management and Production showing the variety and complexity of the challenge. For each case study we will look in detail at what the initial task was and how deployments (both small and large) have addressed the requirements for these very different projects.
