Programme at Nordic Sound Symposium

Sundvollen hotell 28-31 May 2015

In keeping with the long-standing tradition, the symposium program will encompass key technologies and competencies of interest and importance for the work, know-how and business models for audio professionals. Key topics include Digital Audio Networking, Immersive Audio, and Object Based Audio. New developments in the area of wired- and wireless microphones will be covered as well as an update on the status of Loudness in our world and an exciting session on the restoration of Norwegian audiotapes dating back some 70 years.

Digital Audio is no longer only a clock-controlled signal going from A to B, now signals travel "freely" around networks in packets. What controls these, what affects these, how to make them appear where you want; and most importantly how to find them when they are lost and to identify any generator of noise and unwanted artefacts. The seminar will host a range of sessions providing the touring sound engineer or AV-system installation engineer with know-how tailored for the audio business. A work shop will also we set up where attendees can gain experience in configuring and working with networks for AVD, Dante, Ravenna, MADI, LiveWire, AES67 and bridging between these under the assistance of the manufacturers' representatives.

Immersive Audio is forcing its way in to our homes, movie theatres and other events. Soon audio engineers will be required to provide content in one or more of these formats, be it recording or live event. Sessions by the pioneers in this development will focus not only on the significant emotional artistic opportunities this technology represents. But also, the work flow for IA productions will be discussed, and most importantly - the business models and how this affects the day to day work of a live event engineer and a sound recording engineer be it for music, film, radio or TV.
